Conversion & Extension
Mains of Edradour Farm sits in a picturesque rural setting near Pitlochry. It comprises traditional stone and slate buildings arranged around a courtyard, with a main farmhouse. Although it lies outside Pitlochry’s defined settlement boundary, it is a short drive from local
businesses and services, offering strong potential for rural tourism.
The applicants, who live in the main farmhouse, have already made high-quality improvements. They now aim to extend and repurpose the adjacent disused outbuildings to
create lettable accommodation while preserving the original character. The courtyard and single-storey byres offer a safe, pleasant environment for all guests, including those needing level access.
The proposal balances contemporary design with respectful references to the rural setting. By retaining and enhancing the existing buildings, it demonstrates a commitment to local heritage. A carefully designed extension will boost the site’s capacity while remaining true to the local vernacular.
The farm is near attractions such as Edradour Distillery, Pitlochry Festival Theatre, and local paths. The new holiday units will complement these facilities. This Planning statement outlines a proposal that preserves the distinctive character of Mains of Edradour Farm, contributes to regional tourism, and adapts the site to modern needs without compromising its historic appeal.
